Free Ration Distribution Starts September 10: Check Timings, Last Date and Benefits for Cardholders

Ration cardholders in Uttar Pradesh have an important update for September 2026. The distribution schedule for the month's foodgrain allocation has been announced, giving eligible beneficiaries a fixed window to collect their entitlement from fair price shops across the state.

According to the announced schedule, September's ration distribution will begin on September 10 and continue until September 25, 2026. Fair price shops have been instructed to distribute ration in two shifts during the designated period.

Beneficiaries should try to collect their entitlement within the scheduled dates rather than waiting until the final day. Special arrangements will also be available on September 25 for certain beneficiaries who face problems completing Aadhaar-based authentication.

September Ration Distribution From September 10 to 25

Under the September schedule, eligible ration cardholders will have 16 days, from September 10 through September 25, to collect their foodgrain entitlement.

Distribution will take place through authorised fair price shops under the National Food Security Act framework. The schedule applies to eligible Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Priority Household beneficiaries, although the exact composition of foodgrains may differ depending on district-level allocation and availability.

Cardholders should therefore check the entitlement displayed at their local fair price shop before collecting the ration.

Ration Shops to Operate in Two Shifts

To make distribution more convenient and manage crowds, ration shops have been directed to operate in two separate shifts.

The first distribution window will run from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, while the second shift will operate from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

This arrangement gives beneficiaries the flexibility to visit either in the morning or later in the day.

Cardholders should keep in mind that local circumstances can occasionally affect operations at individual shops. Checking with the concerned fair price dealer before travelling may therefore help avoid inconvenience.

Antyodaya Cardholders to Receive 35 Kg Foodgrains

Eligible Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cardholders will receive a total foodgrain entitlement of 35 kg per card during the September distribution cycle.

Reports from different Uttar Pradesh districts show that the exact mix of wheat, rice and coarse grains may vary according to local allocation and available stock. For example, some areas have announced the distribution of coarse grains such as millet or maize alongside wheat and rice, while other districts have different wheat-rice combinations.

The important point for beneficiaries is that the total eligible Antyodaya foodgrain entitlement remains 35 kg per card, subject to the applicable local allocation.

Priority Household Cardholders Get Ration Per Unit

Priority Household, or eligible household, ration cardholders receive their foodgrain allocation on a per-member or per-unit basis.

Reports from several districts indicate an entitlement of 5 kg of foodgrains per eligible unit, although the combination of wheat, rice and coarse grains can differ according to the stock and district allocation.

Beneficiaries should check the number of family members currently registered on their ration card because the household's total entitlement is calculated accordingly.

Antyodaya Families Can Also Buy Sugar at ₹18 Per Kg

September brings an additional benefit for Antyodaya cardholders.

Eligible AAY households will be able to purchase 3 kg of sugar per card at ₹18 per kg, meaning the total cost for three kilograms will be ₹54. The sugar allocation corresponds to the July-September quarterly period.

Unlike the foodgrain entitlement, however, beneficiaries should pay attention to the rules governing where the sugar can be collected.

Portability Available for Ration, but Sugar Has a Restriction

Eligible ration cardholders can use the portability facility for foodgrains, subject to applicable rules and stock availability.

This allows beneficiaries to collect eligible foodgrain from a participating fair price shop even when they are away from their usual location.

However, portability will not apply to the subsidised sugar supplied to Antyodaya cardholders. The sugar must be collected from the beneficiary's designated or original fair price shop.

Antyodaya beneficiaries planning to collect both foodgrains and sugar should keep this distinction in mind.

Special OTP Facility on September 25

Aadhaar authentication is commonly used during ration distribution, but biometric verification does not always work successfully for every beneficiary.

To ensure that eligible families are not deprived of their entitlement because of authentication difficulties, a special arrangement will be available on the final distribution day.

On September 25, beneficiaries who are unable to receive ration through Aadhaar authentication can be provided their eligible foodgrains using mobile OTP verification, subject to the prescribed procedure.

This provision can be particularly useful for people facing biometric authentication problems.

Coarse Grains May Also Be Distributed in Some Districts

Another notable feature of the September distribution is the availability of coarse grains in some parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Depending on stocks, beneficiaries in certain districts may receive foodgrains such as bajra or maize as part of their entitlement. Once the available coarse-grain stock is exhausted, wheat or rice can be distributed according to the applicable instructions.

This is why the precise combination of grains should not be assumed to be identical across every district in Uttar Pradesh.
