Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Unleashes Weak ‘King’ Kingsley in New Cyberpsycho Clip Ahead of October Premiere

Netflix has released a new action-packed look at Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, putting veteran edgerunner Weak “King” Kingsley at the centre of the chaos ahead of the anime's October premiere.

Titled “Cyberpsycho,” the newly released clip follows Weak during a mission that rapidly goes off the rails. The footage provides another glimpse at the violent world awaiting viewers when the standalone sequel returns to Night City with an entirely new group of protagonists.

The sequel will leave the story of David and Lucy behind and instead introduce four central characters with their own ambitions, histories and conflicts.

Things are very different when the sequel begins.

The character is now described as a veteran cyberpunk who has fallen far from his glory days and is struggling to find his place in a world that appears to have moved on without him.

The footage also contains a brief appearance from another major character, Roman, voiced by Momoko Terasawa.

Roman is described as a young movie enthusiast who wants to capture authentic stories in Night City.

That ambition is unusual in a society where traditional cinema has largely been pushed aside by braindance, the immersive technology that allows people to experience recorded sensations and memories.

Her fascination with real stories could therefore provide an interesting perspective on Night City and the people trying to survive within it.

Weak and Roman are only half of the sequel's central cast.

Talia Yang, voiced by Akari Kito, is a member of the Maelstrom gang with an unusual corporate background.

Maelstrom is one of Night City's most notorious gangs and is strongly associated with extreme cybernetic modification, making Talia's history another potentially important element of the story.

The fourth major character is D, voiced by Koki Uchiyama.

D is a netrunner and the sole survivor of Snake Nation. He enters the story seeking revenge, with his pursuit eventually bringing him dangerously close to corporate secrets that were never supposed to be uncovered.

David and Lucy Are No Longer the Main Characters

One of the biggest differences between the original anime and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is its cast.

The sequel is not continuing David Martinez's journey with another chapter of the same storyline.

Instead, it is being presented as a standalone 10-episode series featuring new protagonists and a new narrative set within the same dangerous world.

The original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners followed street kid David as he attempted to survive in Night City after a series of life-changing events.

David eventually became an edgerunner and developed a relationship with talented netrunner Lucy.

Their rise, relationship and tragic circumstances became the emotional centre of the 2022 series.

The second anime will shift its attention entirely to another group of people whose lives become intertwined within Night City.

Studio TRIGGER Returns for Edgerunners 2

Animation production is once again being handled by Studio TRIGGER, the studio responsible for the distinctive visual style of the first anime.

This time, Kai Ikarashi is directing the series.

Ikarashi previously worked on the original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, including serving as storyboard artist and animation director on Episode 6. His other credits include work on Tengoku Daimakyo.

Ichigo Kanno serves as lead character designer. Kanno previously directed Studio TRIGGER's animated trailer for Metallic Child.

Naobito Uchida is the assistant director.

TRIGGER CEO Masahiko Otsuka is handling the script. Otsuka was an assistant director and co-scriptwriter on the original Edgerunners and has also worked on titles including Promare and Gurren Lagann.

CD Projekt Red's Bartosz Sztybor Returns

The connection with CD Projekt Red remains strong for the sequel.

Bartosz Sztybor, Vice President of Franchise at CD PROJEKT RED and narrative director on the first Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, has multiple major responsibilities on the new production.

He is credited as showrunner, story writer and producer.

Meanwhile, Tsuneo Imahori is composing the music.

The new series takes viewers back to Night City but approaches the setting from a different angle.

The Anime Remains Connected to Cyberpunk 2077

Both Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series are inspired by the world of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red's open-world science-fiction RPG released in 2020.

The video game itself is based on the tabletop role-playing universe created by Mike Pondsmith.

That shared universe gives the anime access to Night City's corporations, gangs, cybernetic technology and broader social structure while allowing it to tell stories featuring characters separate from the game's central plot.

Original Edgerunners Arrived in 2022

The first Cyberpunk: Edgerunners premiered on September 13, 2022.

It was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, whose other major works include Promare, Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagann.

The anime centred on David, voiced by KENN, and Lucy, voiced by Aoi Yuki.

The popularity of the series subsequently led to additional projects connected with the anime, including a prequel spin-off manga, collaborations with games such as GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- and Wuthering Waves, and an artbook released in 2026.
