Representing East Zone, the teenager attacked confidently and completed his half-century with a six. He needed only 42 deliveries to reach 50 and continued to build his innings from there.

Sooryavanshi eventually fell for 92 from 81 balls, narrowly missing out on what would have been a memorable century.

Although he could not reach three figures, the innings was enough to secure his place in the Duleep Trophy record books.

Sooryavanshi was only 15 years and 175 days old when he completed his fifty, making him the youngest batter to achieve the milestone in the history of the Duleep Trophy.

The record had remained untouched since 1969.

Laxman Singh had previously held the distinction after scoring a Duleep Trophy fifty at 16 years and 23 days. Sooryavanshi has now lowered the age record by a considerable margin.

According to the figures mentioned in the report, Piyush Chawla is also among the youngest players to have scored a half-century in the tournament, having achieved the feat at 16 years and 307 days.

He also recalled being asked to bowl a few overs when the team was struggling to take wickets. Sooryavanshi said Ishan Kishan may have viewed the decision to hand him the ball as a risk, but the teenager backed his own wicket-taking ability.
