Petrol and diesel prices remained largely unchanged across major Indian cities on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, according to the fuel-rate data provided in the report. While motorists in most locations saw no change from the previous day, a few cities recorded small upward or downward revisions.

New Delhi continued to see petrol at ₹102.12 per litre and diesel at ₹95.20 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol was quoted at ₹111.21 per litre, while diesel stood at ₹97.83 per litre.

The most notable increase among the cities listed was reported in Deoghar, Jharkhand, where both petrol and diesel became more expensive. Bhopal, on the other hand, recorded a small reduction in the prices of both fuels.

Fuel prices differ across cities because of factors such as state-level taxes, including VAT, as well as local freight and distribution costs.

Why Are Petrol and Diesel Prices Different Across Cities?

Even when there is no major nationwide change in fuel rates, consumers may pay different prices depending on where they live.

State taxes are one of the major reasons for this variation. VAT and other applicable local levies can differ from one state to another. Transportation, freight and distribution costs can also contribute to differences in retail prices.

As a result, petrol or diesel may be noticeably more expensive in one city than in another even on the same day.

What Changed on October 6?

For most motorists, the October 6 update brought no major change.

Among the locations included in the supplied data, Deoghar recorded an increase of 84 paise per litre in petrol and 74 paise in diesel. Bhopal provided some relief, with petrol falling by 18 paise and diesel declining by 16 paise per litre.

Rates in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Noida, Gurugram, Patna and several other cities remained unchanged from the previous quoted levels.

Consumers should still check the current price displayed at their local fuel station before filling up, as retail rates can vary by location and the applicable dealer-level pricing.
