LPG cylinder prices are once again in focus as households and businesses wait for oil marketing companies to announce their rates for the new month. Any revision in cooking gas prices can directly affect household expenses, while changes in commercial LPG rates can influence operating costs for restaurants, hotels, dhabas and other businesses.

As of August 31, 2026, the fresh LPG prices for September 1 were yet to be announced. Until the new rates are released, consumers are being charged according to the prices already applicable during the previous month.

The price of a standard 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder varies from city to city. Commercial users also pay different rates for the larger 19-kg cylinder depending on their location.

The prevailing LPG rates mentioned in the latest update are as follows:

Delhi's domestic LPG cylinder is priced at ₹942 for 14.2 kg, while the same cylinder costs ₹941.50 in Mumbai under the prevailing rates.

The city-wise figures show a considerable difference in LPG costs across India. Among the locations listed, Patna has a domestic LPG price of ₹1,031.50, while Noida's rate stands at ₹939.50.

Domestic LPG Became Costlier in June

Households saw a significant revision in domestic cooking gas prices in June 2026.

Oil companies increased the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder by ₹29 at that time. Following the hike, the price of a domestic cylinder in Delhi increased from ₹913 to ₹942.

No further revision in domestic LPG prices has been reported since the June increase. This is one of the main reasons consumers are closely watching the September price announcement.

Any fresh increase could put additional pressure on monthly household budgets, particularly for families that rely entirely on LPG for cooking.

Commercial LPG Users Received Relief in August

While household cooking gas prices remained unchanged after the June increase, businesses received some relief at the beginning of August.

On August 1, oil marketing companies reduced the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders. The reduction varied by city and ranged from approximately ₹192 to ₹209.

The decline was associated with softer crude oil prices in international markets.

Commercial LPG prices are particularly important for businesses in the food and hospitality sectors. Restaurants, hotels, catering businesses, roadside eateries and other commercial establishments use these larger cylinders extensively.

A substantial change in commercial LPG prices can therefore influence their operating expenses.

Why LPG Prices Differ From One City to Another

LPG prices are influenced by multiple domestic and international factors. Conditions in global crude oil and gas markets play an important role, but they are not the only factors affecting the final price paid by consumers.

Currency movements can also influence costs because India's energy requirements are significantly linked to international markets. Changes in the value of the rupee can therefore affect import expenses.
