Gold & Silver Price Today: Gold prices continued their upward momentum on Wednesday, climbing close to a two-week high as investors shifted toward safe-haven assets amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Silver also outperformed, gaining nearly 1.7% in global trade. Market participants are now closely watching the upcoming US Federal Reserve policy meeting, which could influence the next move in precious metals.

Gold and silver extend gains in global markets

Precious metals remained in focus on July 22, with gold and silver witnessing strong buying interest in international markets. Concerns over geopolitical developments in West Asia, combined with expectations surrounding the US Federal Reserve's upcoming monetary policy decision, have boosted demand for safe-haven assets.

Gold futures on COMEX were trading around $4,124 per ounce, up approximately 1.17%, after touching an intraday high of $4,128.40 per ounce, marking the highest level in nearly two weeks.

Silver performed even better, with COMEX silver futures rising about 1.70% to trade near $60.12 per ounce, reflecting stronger investor interest in both precious and industrial metals.

Domestic gold prices also move higher

The rally in international bullion markets was reflected in domestic prices as well. In Delhi, gold prices increased by around ₹800, taking the rate to nearly ₹1.47 lakh per 10 grams.

Meanwhile, according to local bullion traders, silver prices remained firm around ₹2.21 lakh per kilogram, supported by healthy physical demand and positive global cues.

Why are gold prices rising?

The primary reason behind the latest rally is the growing demand for gold as a safe-haven investment.

Investor sentiment turned cautious after reports suggested that two oil tankers traveling from Saudi Arabia toward Asia altered their routes in the Red Sea following security concerns linked to threats from Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. The developments have renewed worries about global energy supply disruptions and broader geopolitical risks.

Whenever uncertainty rises in financial markets, investors typically increase allocations to assets such as gold, which are considered relatively safer during periods of volatility.

Although diplomatic efforts are reportedly underway to ease regional tensions, market participants continue to remain cautious until greater clarity emerges.

Focus shifts to the US Federal Reserve

Apart from geopolitical developments, traders are also positioning themselves ahead of the US Federal Reserve's monetary policy meeting scheduled next week.

Most analysts expect the central bank to keep interest rates unchanged. However, investors will closely monitor the Fed's policy statement, economic projections, and comments from officials for clues about the future direction of interest rates.

Interest rate expectations play a crucial role in determining gold prices. Since gold does not generate interest income, higher interest rates generally reduce its appeal compared to fixed-income investments such as bonds or deposits. Conversely, expectations of lower rates or a more accommodative policy stance often provide support to bullion prices.

Physical demand continues to support bullion

Apart from macroeconomic factors, steady physical demand has also contributed to the recent strength in gold prices.

Despite elevated prices, buying activity has remained healthy in major consuming countries, particularly China. Additionally, continued gold purchases by several central banks around the world have helped maintain positive momentum in the bullion market.

Silver, meanwhile, is also benefiting from improving sentiment in industrial metals. The metal is widely used in sectors such as:

  • Electronics manufacturing

  • Solar energy equipment

  • Electric vehicles

  • Clean energy technologies

Strong industrial demand expectations continue to support silver prices alongside investment buying.

Analysts remain optimistic

Commodity analysts believe that the recent correction in gold prices helped reduce selling pressure, allowing fresh buying to emerge at lower levels.

According to market experts, renewed safe-haven demand amid geopolitical uncertainty has strengthened bullish sentiment. Higher crude oil prices and expectations that the Federal Reserve may maintain a cautious approach have also contributed to the positive outlook.

Technical analysts expect MCX Gold to remain within a broad range of ₹1.41 lakh to ₹1.45 lakh per 10 grams over the coming trading sessions, depending on global developments and the Fed's policy signals.
