Gold and Silver Prices Jump in Four Sessions; Silver Gains Nearly ₹8,000 per Kg
Gold and silver prices recorded a strong increase during the shortened trading week, with bullion rates moving higher on the Multi Commodity Exchange as well as in India’s physical market. Silver delivered the bigger weekly move, rising by more than ₹7,000 per kilogram on MCX and nearly ₹8,000 in the domestic bullion market.
Commodity trading took place for only four days during the week. Markets remained closed on Monday, September 14, for Ganesh Chaturthi after the regular Saturday and Sunday break. Despite the reduced number of sessions, both precious metals experienced significant price movements.
Investors and jewellery buyers should examine the latest purity-wise rates before making a purchase. Retail jewellery prices are generally higher than standard bullion quotations because GST, making charges and other retailer-specific costs are added separately.
MCX Gold Rises by ₹1,479 in Four Sessions
Gold futures traded strongly during the week. The 24-carat gold contract with an October 5 expiry ended Friday’s session at ₹1,54,263 per 10 grams on MCX.
The contract reportedly gained ₹1,282 per 10 grams during Friday’s session alone. At the beginning of the four-session trading period, it was priced at ₹1,52,784.
This means MCX gold advanced by ₹1,479 per 10 grams during the shortened week.
| MCX Gold Movement | Price per 10 Grams |
|---|---|
| Price at the beginning of the period | ₹1,52,784 |
| Friday’s closing price | ₹1,54,263 |
| Net increase | ₹1,479 |
Futures prices can change rapidly in response to international bullion trends, movements in the US dollar, interest-rate expectations and changes in the rupee-dollar exchange rate.
Domestic 24-Carat Gold Becomes ₹1,789 Costlier
The physical bullion market also witnessed a noticeable rise. According to rates published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association, 24-carat gold was priced at ₹1,51,938 per 10 grams on September 11.
By the following Friday, the rate had increased to ₹1,53,727 per 10 grams. The difference between the two prices is ₹1,789.
| Domestic 24-Carat Gold | Price per 10 Grams |
|---|---|
| Rate on September 11 | ₹1,51,938 |
| Friday’s closing rate | ₹1,53,727 |
| Weekly increase | ₹1,789 |
The quoted bullion rate is not necessarily the final amount a customer will pay for jewellery. A 3% GST is applicable, while making charges, wastage charges and other costs may vary between sellers. Buyers should request an itemised invoice before completing a transaction.
Latest Gold Rates by Purity
The upward movement was not limited to 24-carat gold. Rates for other purity levels also remained elevated at the end of the week.
According to the reported IBJA closing prices, 22-carat gold stood at ₹1,50,040 per 10 grams. The price of 20-carat gold was ₹1,36,820, while 18-carat gold closed at ₹1,24,520 per 10 grams.
The 14-carat variety was priced at ₹99,150 per 10 grams.
| Gold Purity | Price per 10 Grams |
|---|---|
| 24 carat | ₹1,53,727 |
| 22 carat | ₹1,50,040 |
| 20 carat | ₹1,36,820 |
| 18 carat | ₹1,24,520 |
| 14 carat | ₹99,150 |
Consumers should confirm the purity and hallmark details when purchasing jewellery. A lower price may reflect a lower gold content rather than a cheaper offer on the same quality.
MCX Silver Climbs ₹7,026 per Kilogram
Silver futures also moved sharply during the week. The MCX contract with a December 4 expiry had closed at ₹2,34,974 per kilogram on September 11.
On Friday, it gained ₹397 during the session and finished at ₹2,42,000 per kilogram. Based on these figures, the metal became ₹7,026 costlier over the four trading sessions.
| MCX Silver Movement | Price per Kilogram |
|---|---|
| Closing rate on September 11 | ₹2,34,974 |
| Latest Friday closing rate | ₹2,42,000 |
| Total increase | ₹7,026 |
Silver is affected by both investment activity and industrial demand. It is used in electronics, solar-energy equipment and several manufacturing applications, making its price sensitive to wider economic conditions.
Silver Still ₹1.78 Lakh Below Its Record Peak
Despite its latest recovery, MCX silver remains considerably below the lifetime high mentioned in the original market report.
Silver reportedly reached a record level of ₹4,20,048 per kilogram during the final week of January 2026. Compared with Friday’s closing price of ₹2,42,000, the metal remains ₹1,78,048 below that peak.
This comparison shows how volatile silver has been during the year. Although the metal rose strongly over the latest four sessions, it is still trading about 42.4% below the cited record high.
Physical-Market Silver Gains ₹7,988
Silver prices also increased in the domestic physical market. IBJA data cited in the report placed the rate at ₹2,28,920 per kilogram on September 11.
By Friday, the price had climbed to ₹2,36,908 per kilogram. This represents an increase of ₹7,988 in the comparison period.
| Domestic Silver Movement | Price per Kilogram |
|---|---|
| Rate on September 11 | ₹2,28,920 |
| Latest Friday rate | ₹2,36,908 |
| Total increase | ₹7,988 |
Buyers Should Compare the Final Payable Price
Bullion benchmark rates, MCX futures and retail jewellery prices are not identical. Futures contracts relate to exchange-traded commodities, while physical-market prices may vary according to location, seller, purity and local demand.
Before buying gold or silver, consumers should verify the latest rate, hallmarking information, product weight, applicable GST and making charges. Investors should also remember that a four-day rally does not guarantee that prices will continue rising. Precious metals can be volatile and may react quickly to global economic developments.
