Mercedes-Benz is set to expand its high-performance lineup in India with the launch of the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+. Combining AMG performance with plug-in hybrid technology, the new luxury sedan promises powerful acceleration, electric-only driving capability, and premium features aimed at enthusiasts seeking both performance and efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz is introducing the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ in India today, marking the arrival of a new plug-in hybrid performance sedan in its premium portfolio. The launch is significant because it blends AMG's performance-focused engineering with electrified technology, a combination that is still relatively rare in India's luxury car market.

Positioned above the standard E-Class, the AMG E 53 Hybrid is designed for buyers looking for a more engaging driving experience without stepping into the brand's full-fledged supercar range. With a powerful hybrid drivetrain, advanced chassis technologies, and the ability to drive short distances using only electric power, the sedan aims to strike a balance between everyday usability and high-performance motoring.

Expected Price in India

Mercedes-Benz has not announced the official price ahead of the launch. However, industry estimates suggest the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ could be priced between ₹1.35 crore and ₹1.45 crore (ex-showroom).

The sedan is expected to be imported into India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), which typically results in a higher price compared to locally assembled luxury vehicles. Once launched, it will compete in the premium performance sedan segment alongside offerings from BMW and Audi.

The final pricing will play an important role in determining how competitively the new AMG model positions itself in the Indian luxury performance market.

Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain with 577 bhp

Powering the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid is a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor and battery pack. Together, the hybrid system produces a combined output of 577 bhp and 750 Nm of peak torque.

Mercedes-AMG also offers its Race Start function, which temporarily boosts output to 604 bhp, delivering even stronger acceleration during performance driving.

The powertrain is paired with the company's AMG Speedshift nine-speed automatic transmission and the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system, ensuring power is distributed efficiently across all four wheels for improved grip and handling.

According to Mercedes-Benz's global performance figures, the sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 3.8 seconds, placing it among the quickest luxury sedans in its category.

Electric-Only Driving for Daily Commutes

Unlike many traditional AMG models, the E 53 Hybrid also offers an electric-only driving mode for shorter trips. This feature allows the vehicle to operate without using the petrol engine under suitable conditions, making it useful for urban commuting and low-speed city traffic.

The plug-in hybrid setup also helps improve fuel efficiency while reducing emissions during everyday driving, offering buyers a more practical alternative without sacrificing performance.

AMG Styling with Premium Cabin Features

The new sedan carries several signature AMG styling elements that distinguish it from the standard E-Class. Exterior highlights include:

  • Aggressive AMG-specific front bumper

  • Large alloy wheels

  • Quad exhaust outlets

  • Sportier body detailing

Inside the cabin, Mercedes-Benz has equipped the sedan with a premium interior featuring:

  • AMG sports seats

  • Digital instrument cluster with AMG-specific graphics

  • Latest-generation Mercedes-Benz infotainment system

  • Premium materials and performance-inspired design elements

The cabin is designed to offer both luxury and driver-focused ergonomics, making it suitable for long-distance touring as well as spirited driving.

Advanced Driving Technologies

The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid comes equipped with several advanced performance technologies that enhance handling and ride quality.

Key highlights include:

  • Adaptive suspension system

  • Rear-wheel steering

  • Multiple selectable driving modes

  • Intelligent chassis management

These systems automatically adjust the vehicle's steering response, suspension settings, and drivetrain characteristics based on road conditions and the selected driving mode, allowing drivers to switch between comfort-focused cruising and dynamic performance.

A New Choice in India's Performance Luxury Segment

With the launch of the AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+, Mercedes-Benz is further strengthening its presence in India's growing luxury performance car segment. The model combines the instant torque of electric power with the performance credentials of AMG, offering buyers an alternative to conventional petrol-powered sports sedans.

Mercedes-Benz is expected to announce the official price, booking details, and India-specific specifications during today's launch event. The final pricing and equipment list will determine how strongly the AMG E 53 Hybrid competes against similarly positioned luxury performance sedans from rival German manufacturers.
